Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a Hybrid chicken?
Hybrids are varieties that have been developed by pairing different heritage breeds to give certain qualities whether that is appearance, productivity or egg colour. The aim being to produce birds that are both beautiful to look at and also great at keeping the egg boxes full.
  • How old are your birds?
Point of Lay chickens, known as pullets, are approximately 16-18 weeks old. This means that they will have a few weeks to settle in before starting to lay. Some varieties will start sooner than others.
  • How many do I need to keep?
We always suggest a minimum of 3. This means you should always have eggs throughout the year and the birds feel like they belong to a flock. We do not sell individual birds.
  • How do we buy birds?
Our birds are able to be reserved by email or phone and payment can be made in person at the farm. We accept contactless payments. While stock levels are usually updated own the website, please contact us to check.
